Three generations of our family have fond memories of Edith.
The senior member of our large family, my father Dmitry Zavgorodny, has worked with her on a variety of political issues for many years. Their shared understanding of the world and the productivity of cooperation led to strong friendships that have lasted for decades. Once Edith accepted my father’s invitation for a trip to Syria, where he was working at the time. They spent unforgettable time there together…
My story with Edith started with an internship I completed under her direct supervision at the WILPF headquarters in Geneva. There was also a trip to Bolivia for the WILPF Congress… Edith impressed me with her sharp mind, independent thinking, and her gentle tact combined with a sparkling sense of humor. I really wanted to be more like her… My life was very different from Edith’s bright and eventful life, but nevertheless, she became a lighthouse for me, a real example of sincere love for life, truth, and people.
So, quite naturally, I wanted to introduce my husband and children to Edith so that they also could be touched by her kindness and wisdom and feel her atmosphere. Just being with Edith was already good for them. But Edith always added lots of chocolates, souvenirs, and hugs))))
Dear Edith, rest in peace. We remember and love you with all our hearts.
