Heartfelt Reflection on Edith Ballantyne’s Spirit
I will forever hold onto the memory of visiting Edith Ballantyne in December 2022, just before her 100th birthday. Though nearing a century, she was full of warmth and energy—setting the table herself, placing the plates, and pouring the wine. Her grace and hospitality were remarkable, a true reflection of her enduring spirit.
What struck me most was her unwavering passion for staying connected to the world. That day, she confided that if her computer issues were not resolved—cutting her off from WILPF, the news, and global affairs—she felt she would die. To her, being disconnected from the world she fought so tirelessly for was unthinkable. It was a profound reminder that her activism was not just a role—it was her lifeblood.
Her legacy will continue to inspire us all to stay engaged, committed, and unyielding in the pursuit of peace.
