Such an amazing woman Edith was, and I was so privileged to have worked with her. Even as late as last summer in 2024, Edith was still communicating about Cuba and telling me that she wished she could attend our US WILPF Cuba and the Bolivarian Alliance Issues Committee, but our meetings would be midnight her time. She even asked if we recorded our meetings so she could keep up. She was so committed to Cuba and building solidarity with the Cuban people. While I first met Edith in the early 2000’s, it was when we were planning an international conference in Cuba that I first worked with her. She was inspiring, energetic, knowledgeable and supportive in so many ways in this effort which unfortunately never came to fruition for a number of reasons. But that experience made me an “Edith fan.” Cuba has lost an inspiring woman who fought for their right to self-determination and we have lost a great woman who never gave up working for peace. However, she has left us with inspiration to keep fighting for peace until our last breath, just as she did. Rest in peace Edith – you have left a great mark in the struggle for peace.
